Alles wächst - Everything grows

Endlich gibt es wieder Neues aus dem Garten zu berichten! Nach und nach sieht man, wie alles wächst und gedeiht. Kommt mit, auf eine kleine Gartentour ...

Finally I can tell you something new about my garden! Bit by bit you can see how everything is growing. May I invite you to a little garden tour ...

Als erstes werft ihr einen kleinen Blick auf die neu bepflanzte Kräuterschnecke. Hier findet man Rosmarin, Tymian, Schnittlauch und Petersilie sowie Basilikum und Pfefferminze. Auf der Rücksiete befinden sich zwei Lavendelsträucher, die noch in das große Beet auswandern werden.

First of all you see our replanted herb spiral. There you can find rosemary, thymian, chive, parsley, basil and peppermint. In the back you can see two lavender bushes, which have to move into the new big border.

Auch das Iris-Beet mit vor dem Haus wird von Tag zu Tag dicher.

The iris-border in front of the house is growing constantly.

Auch die Horthensie, die schon sehr traurig ausgesehen hat, gibt wieder ein Lebenszeichen von sich.

The hydrangea shows signs of life too, although she looked very bad in the first months.

Was sagt ihr zu meiner Kletterrose "Papi Delbard"? Man hat den Eindruck, dass sie richtiggehend explodiert ist :-)!

What do you think about my rambler rose "Papi Delbard"? I always have the impression that she looks like if she is exploded.

Könnt ihr euch noch erinnern, als ich in Wels war und die Rosen gekauft habe? Jetzt sehen sie so aus!

Do you remeber when I was in Wels and bought the roses? Now they are looking like that!

Und auch die Blumenzwiebel aus Wels wachsen und gedeihen prächtig.

The flower bulbs from Wels are growing very much too.

Meine drei Pfingstrosen sehen auch toll aus! Was mich nur wundert, ist die Tatsache, dass die erste schon eine Knospe hat - und das, obwohl man sagt, Pfingstrosen blühen erst ab dem dritten Standjahr!

I love my three peonies! The only thing I´m wondering about is that one of them got it´s first bud - normally the bloom in the third year!

Ich hoffe, euch hat meine kleine Gartentour gefallen! Bald ist es so weit und das große neue Beet wird bepflanzt. Ich halte euch auf dem Laufenden!

Geschafft! - I just managed it!

Vielen vielen Dank an alle, die mir die Daumen gehalten haben! Es hat geholfen!

Heute habe ich meine Defensio mit Sehr gut abgelegt und somit mein Studium abgeschlossen!

Ein großer Lebensabschnitt endet hier für mich, gleichzeitig tut sich ein neuer, sehr aufregender auf!

Ich verabschiede mich mit zwei Bildern meiner Universität, genauer gesagt der Rechtswissenschaftlichen Fakultät der Uni Graz. Ich hoffe, ihr habt einen kleinen Eindruck davon, wo ich hunderte von Stunden verbracht habe.

Ich melde mich sehr bald wieder mit neuen Gartenbildern,

A big thank you to everyone who kept the fingers crossed today for me! It has done it´s work!

Today I´ve done my "denfence" and I finally got an "A"! Now I´ve completed my degree!

A long period of my life is closing now but on the other hand, a new and very exciting one starts!

I say goodby with two pictures of my University, the Jurisprudential Faculty in Graz, so you get a little impression where I´ve been lots and lots of hours!

Mein Studium - Answers about my studies

Hallo an alle!

Danke für die lieben Glückwünsche und fürs Daumen halten! Nachdem keiner von euch wusste, dass ich studiere und vor allem WAS - hier ist die Antwort:
ich bin so eine "verkappte Juristin" :-)! Also, ich habe Jus (Jura sagt man dazu in Deutschland) studiert und hoffe, mal Richterin zu werden!

Die Prüfung ist eigentlich keine richtige Prüfung sondern nennt sich "Defensio" (auf Deutsch: Verteidigung). Ich musste ja eine Diplomarbeit schreiben, und am Montag werde ich ein Referat über die Arbeit halten, anschließend werden mir Fragen dazu gestellt. Das ganze hat den Sinn um festzustellen, ob der Student selbst die Arbeit verfasst hat und nicht schreiben hat lassen.
Das Thema meiner Arbeit war, wo im Arbeitsrecht überall familiäre Verpflichtungen berücksichtigt werden. Ihr kennt das sicher alle - angefangen von Karenzzeiten (Mutterschutz), über freie Tage wenn man auf ein Begräbnis oder eine Hochzeit muss usw.

Ich muss sagen, das Thema war wirklich hoch interessant und es tut mir leid, dass ich nicht mehr darüber schreiben durfte. Denn die Arbeit ist mit höchstens 80 Seiten beschränkt, ich habe ohnehin schon 100 Seiten dafür gebraucht :-)!

Ich hoffe, ich habe euch nicht allzu sehr gelangweilt!

Hi everybody!

Thanks for all your kind comments and keeping the fingers crossed for me!

As most of you didn´t know that I´m a student and especially WHAT I´m studying - here is the answer:

I study law and I hope to become a judge one day!

The exam on Monday is no exam in the classical way. It´s called "Defensio" (in English: defence). I had to write a diploma thesis and on Monday I will give a presentation about it. Afterwards the teacher will ask me some questions about this paper. So they are checking if the student has wrote the diploma thesis by himself.

I´ve choosen labour law, and in which parts of labour law family obigations are taken into consideration. I think everybody of you knows some examples - times of maternity protection or when somebody from your family died or is getting married. Then you will get free days and payments will be continued.

I have to say that my subject-matter was very very interesting and I´m so sorry that I wasn´t allowed to write more about it. The paper is limited with 80 pages and I have to admit that I needed 100 :-)!

I hope I haven´t bored you too much!

Meine letzte Prüfung - My last exam

Jetzt ist es bald soweit! Am kommenden Montag, den 23.4.2007 werde ich meine letzte Prüfung ablegen! Heute habe ich den Termin dazu bekommen.

In den nächsten Tagen werde ich deshalb nicht viel Zeit haben, mich dem Blog und allen lieben Blogger-Freunden zu widmen. Aber vergesst mich nicht, ich komme wieder!

Haltet mir also die Daumen, dass ich gut abschneide und mich dann endlich Frau Magister (eigentlich ja Frau Magistra, aber ich finde, dass klingt komisch) nennen darf :-)!

Now the time has come to do my last exam! On Monday, April 23th 2007 I will have my last exam! Today I got the information about it.

The next few days I won´t have much time to do new entries at my blog and read those of all the other Blogger-friends. But please don´t forget me, I will come back!

So keep your fingers crossed for me that I can do a good job, get an excellent result and finally get my academic degree :-)!

Gartenarbeit - Gardening

Nachdem das Wetter jetzt so schön ist, muss man die Zeit nutzen um die wichtigsten Gartenarbeiten zu erledigen.

Hier seht ihr die Blumenzwiebel, die ich auf der Gartenmesse in Wels gekauft habe und zum Vortreiben in Töpfe gepflanzt habe.

Now is the best time for gardening, especially as the weather is so fine.

Here you can see the bulbs I´ve bought at the Garden Exhibition in Wels. I´ve planted them in pots to grow before they will become their final place.

Jetzt zeige ich euch Fotos von meinem Rosengarten vor und nach dem Rückschnitt.

So sah es noch Ende letzter Woche aus ...

This was the situation last Sunday ...

... und so gestern Nachmittag. Auch wenn es ein bisschen "brutal" scheint, aber Rosen brauchen den Rückschnitt um dann umso schöner neu auszutreiben.

... and here you can see the result of my work yesterday. I know it looks a little bit brutal, but roses need this cut to grow much more beautiful every year.

Und zum Schluss noch einen Gesamtüberblick über das frisch geschnittene Beet. Irgendwie total ungewohnt, aber ich freue mich jetzt schon riesig auf Juni, wenn alles in Blüte steht :-)!

Finally you can see the whole border from above. For me it´s an unsusual sight but I´m really looking forward to June when every single rose is blooming :-)!

Osterfest in Österreich - Celebrating Easter in Austria

Hallo an alle! Vielen Dank für eure zahlreichen Kommentare, ich habe mich über jeden Einzelnen sehr gefreut! Ich hoffe, ihr habt Ostern gut verbracht!? Das Wetter war bei uns ja sensationell schön!

Nachdem einige von euch den Brauch des Osterstrauches nicht kannten, dachte ich mir, euch einen kleinen Ein- bzw. Rückblick auf das Osterfest und seine Bräuche in Österreich zu geben.

Hello everybody! Thanks a lot for all your kind comments, I was glad to read every entry you wrote! I hope you enjoyed the days around Easter? The weather here in Austria was very fine!

As some of you didn´t know the custom to decorate pussy pillow branches with eggs (there is no English word for how we call it), I thought I will show you how we celebrate Easter here in Austria with some of our traditions.

Am Karfreitag färben wir die Eier ...

On Good Friday we colour the eggs ...

... einige davon werden dann zusammen mit Osterfleisch ("Gselchtes" sagen wir dazu), Osterpinze (süßes Weißbrot) und Kren (Meerrettich) in einen Korb gelegt, mit einem Ostertuch bedeckt und meist einer Blume geschmückt in die Kirche zur Fleischweihe getragen.

... some of them are given in a basket together with cured meat, sweet white bread and horseradish. All is covered with an embroidered cloth and decorated most times with a flower. This basket will be carried into church to consecrate the food.

Um 14 Uhr findet dann die Fleischweihe in der Kirche statt ...

At 2 p.m. there is the consecration of the food in church ...

Aus der Kirche zurückgekehrt wird alles für das große Essen vorbereitet.

Back from church we start to prepare everything for eating the delicious food.

Ich liebe es, zu Ostern typisch steirische/österreichische Sachen zu tragen. Auch wenn es kein klassisches Dirndl ist, so gibt es bei uns viele verschiedene Varianten Tracht zu tragen. Und das ist eine davon :-)!

I love to wear typical Styrian/Austrian clothes on Easter days. Although it´s no traditional "Dirndl" we have so many different ways to wear traditional costumes, and this is one of it :-)!

Auch ein dekorierter Tisch gehört zum Festessen!

This includes a lovely decorated table too!

Ich könnte euch noch viel mehr über Ostern und seine Bräuche erzählen, aber ich denke, das wäre zu viel an dieser Stelle. Vielleicht schreibe ich nächstes Jahr wieder über ein paar andere Bräuche.

I could tell you much more about Easter and all the customs we have here but I think it would be too much. perhaps next year I will write you more about other traditions we have at Easter time.

Osterdekoration - Easter decoration

Spät aber doch hat auch bei uns die Osterdekoration Einzug gehalten. Dieses Jahr besteht unser Osterstrauch aus ganz langen Palmkätzchen und Zweige einer Spiralhasel, die in der Bodenvase ihren Platz gefunden haben.

I know it´s a little bit late, but now I will present you my Easter decoration. This year we have extra long pussy willows and hazel braches to decorate with eggs.

In der Mitte unser inzwischen alt gedientere Strohhase, den wir vor einigen Jahren am Bauernmarkt in Graz gekauft haben.

Between the branches there is our long standing rabbit made of straw. We bought him years ago at our traditional farmers market in Graz.

Und zum Abschluss zwei kleine selbstgemachte Begleiter, die wir geschenkt bekommen haben. Habt ihr Vorschläge, wie ich die beiden nennen könnte?!

Finally there are two selfmade figures, which we got as a present. Do you have any suggestion how we could call them?!

Und, habt Ihr Eure Osterdekoration auch schon aufgestellt? Das kommende Wochenende soll ja wettermäßig ziemlich schön werden, ich bin mal gespannt, ob es auch wirklich so sein wird!

Habt ihr schon mal schwarze Hornveilchen gesehen? Ich noch nie, und diese waren wirklich schwarz! Aber meiner Meinung nach ist schwarz keine Farbe für den Garten oder für Pflanzen.

Have you ever seen black violas? For me it´s the first time! Personally I think black is not a good colour for the garden or flowers.

I hope I could give you a little impression of the Garden Exhibition! Although the weather was fine and I got a lot of new flowers, it was an exhausting day. But we are really looking forward to next year to visit the Exhibition again!
